I'm not letting it rain on my parade

I debated sharing this, worried that people would judge me, but then hubby was asking where it was because he remembered how fun it was and was watching for me to share it so he could see it again and smile again.  So here it is.

It rained on Mother's Day, but we did not let it spoil our day, but rather sat and watched the rain for about 45 minutes and then danced in it and had a good 'ol time anyway.  I did a video during a bit of our fun.

Then while I was typing the title, trying to think of something creative, the "I'm not letting it rain on my parade" came to mind and I realized how perfect that is for me today, as I do feel as if people are raining on my parade.  This song is from 1964 and reminds me that nothing is new, that people have felt this way over and over long before me and I am not alone.  Isn't it amazing how music can lift the soul?

Don't tell me not to live,
Just sit and putter,
Life's candy and the sun's
A ball of butter.
Don't bring around a cloud
To rain on my parade.
Don't tell me not to fly--
I've simply got to.
If someone takes a spill,
It's me and not you.
Who told you you're allowed
To rain on my parade!
I'll march my band out,
I'll beat my drum,
And if I'm fanned out,
Your turn at bat, sir.
At least I didn't fake it.
Hat, sir, I guess I didn't make it!
But whether I'm the rose
Of sheer perfection,
Or freckle on the nose
Of life's complexion,
The cinder or the shiny apple of its eye,
I gotta fly once,
I gotta try once,
Only can die once, right, sir?
Ooh, life is juicy,
Juicy, and you'll see
I'm gonna have my bite, sir!
Get ready for me, love,
'Cause I'm a "comer,"
I simply gotta march,
My heart's a drummer.
Don't bring around a cloud
To rain on my parade!
I'm gonna live and live now,
Get what I want--I know how,
One roll for the whole shebang,
One throw, that bell will go clang,
Eye on the target--and wham--
One shot, one gun shot, and bam--
Hey, Mister Arnstein, here I am!

I'll march my band out,
I will beat my drum,
And if I'm fanned out,
Your turn at bat, sir,
At least I didn't fake it.
Hat, sir, I guess I didn't make it.
Get ready for me, love,
'Cause I'm a "comer,"
I simply gotta march,
My heart's a drummer.
Nobody, no, nobody
Is gonna rain on my parade!

LOVE Funny Girl and Streisand and that song, in particular! Thanks for the smile. Reminds me of the time our Caddie wanted to play on the deck, but it was raining. We told her no, of course, but while we'd turned our backs for half-a-second, out she goes. She feels the rain, looks up, holds her face to the sky and grins!!! Then she begins stomping and jumping and PLAYING! I got some great pix and it was such a JOY to watch her and go out and play with her. Life is NOT about waiting for the storms to pass. It's about learning how to dance in the rain!!!

What fun to play in the rain. I let my daughter do it often. Once when I was in college, my mom let me play in a wet, freshly plowed farm field. Lots of mud, so much fun.

Stay young and play in the rain!
